The perpetually touring band of succubi and their merch girl Ronnie are back in town, ready to perform in all their gory glory…and take a bite out of your memories too.

SLEEP ALONE is now available everywhere books are sold! Thank you to everyone who’s supported and encouraged me through the writing and publication of this book. You’re a big part of the reason this story didn’t disappear into the void. It’s a thrill to know my book is in bookstores and libraries across the country, so if you happen to see copies in your local store, I’d love to see pics on Bluesky and Instagram! Ronnie is a piece of my restless heart and I hope you enjoy your time spent with her and Helene and the boys.
Also out today, COLD SNAP by Angela Sylvaine! I’m so happy to share a publication day with Angela. I like to think Ronnie and the boys are setting up in Demise, ND right now (if only Realene had time for a show).
More recommendations!
Since my last newsletter, I’ve discovered some new loves:
“Wolf Moon, Antler Moon” by A.C. Wise - Why did I wait so long to read this one?? A gorgeous story, richly textured with the sounds and scents of predators and prey stretching their legs and airing their fangs. Vivid, melancholy, with a thread of dark fairytale running throughout. It left me thinking about what we owe society, ourselves, and how much responsibility is ours to take and shed. Also, a Bram Stoker Award finalist!
“The Polyamorous Heart of Death” by M. Lopes da Silva - A beautifully written and thought-provoking story about art and death. Expertly produced by PseudoPod (Ep 1018, Feb 2026).
A favorite visual artist…

Succumb (Jason Limon, 2019)
I’m a big fan of Jason Limon’s art and am lucky enough to have two of his small paintings. If you love horror, anatomy, and nature, check out his exquisite work.
Well, that’s it for now. Tonight, I’ll be celebrating SLEEP ALONE’s publication with dinner out with my favorite human and catching up on TV (Dark Winds and Last Week Tonight with John Oliver) with my two favorite cats. As always, thanks for your interest and support!
See you on Bluesky and Instagram @JAWMcCarthy
